This is a portrait of Jesse Itzler. He is a pretty interesting guy…serial entrepreneur, maybe the first white rapper, cofounder of a jet company which he sold to Warren Buffet (yeah, we don’t run in the same circles), subsequent multi-multi-multi millionaire, part owner of the Atlanta Hawks, and super endurance athlete.
It is funny, the fact that he is wealthy isn’t what I am envious of…well, mostly. First of all, as someone that is follically challenged, look at that beard!!! Secondly, he is an absolutely maniacal runner and overall endurance athlete. This is a guy who doesn’t have to work another day in his life and chooses to challenge himself daily. Not to mention his aversion to comfort often going in 200 degree saunas with a hat on and sitting in huge tubs of ice water.
Anyway, I chose this particular photo because there was a quiet confidence and an overall look of self-satisfaction that I really admire and I hope that I have done justice in the portrait. I believe this photo (and hopefully portrait) is the closest visual I have seen that crystalizes Mr. John Wooden’s definition of success which is, “Success is the peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best you are capable of becoming.”
